MOT Testing Available at Jeep Durham

Is your Jeep more than three years old? If so, you’re likely aware that, by law, it must undergo an MOT every 12 months.

Here at Croxdale Jeep, our Jeep Authorised technicians use advanced diagnostic technology to perform MOT testing at our A167 premises. During the test, they examine a wide range of vehicle features, including body, wheels, suspension, axles, lights, number plates, brakes, brake pads, seatbelts, and, where applicable, the fuel system and exhaust emissions. Full MOT testing details can be found here: Getting an MOT.

It’s important to remember that an MOT certificate is an official document confirming a vehicle’s roadworthiness and safety. Driving without a valid certificate is an offence, and if caught, you could face a fine of up to £1,000.

There’s no need to risk this, especially when we offer MOTs at a highly competitive price. To book your MOT appointment, simply call our service team or complete our online contact form at your convenience.

Checklist

How do MOTs work?

An MOT inspection covers a wide range of vehicular facets and components in order to judge a car’s overall roadworthiness. Vehicles that successfully pass their MOT are issued with an MOT certificate which is valid for the following 12 months. Those that fail their MOT need to be retested. If this should happen in your case, we’ll inform you of the exact issues and recommended remedies before proceeding with repairs.

How can I help my car pass its MOT?

Approximately 33% of cars fail their MOT each year, often for easily avoidable reasons. By actioning our handy checklist below, you’ll stand a much better chance of MOT success.

  1. Headlights and indicators
Check that each of your vehicle’s exterior lights functions correctly.
  2. Brake lights
With the help of a friend who can view your car’s brake lights, press the brake pedal to check that they’re operating properly. Alternatively, position a reflective surface at the rear of the car and check them yourself.
  3. Number plates
Are your number plates clean and legible? If not, this could cause an MOT fail. Also, check that the font – and the spacing of the letters – complies with legal requirements.
  4. Wheels and tyres
Inspect each wheel and tyre for signs of damage – and ensure that each tyre has a minimum 1.6mm tread depth (3mm is the ideal). If you’re not sure how to do this, please don’t hesitate to contact us for advice.
  5. Seats and seatbelts
Check to see that the driver’s seat adjusts as it should and that all seatbelts are in good order – inspect the full length for signs of damage. Check too that each belt functions correctly: tug on the belt sharply to simulate its effectiveness in abrupt-braking situations.
  6. Windscreen
Closely examine every inch of the windscreen. If a damaged spot measures 40mm or more – or 10mm or more in the ‘swept’ area of the driver’s side – MOT failure is almost guaranteed.
  7. Windscreen wipers
Are your wipers working properly? Also, check for tears or holes on the wiper rubber that might cause a failed MOT.
  8. Screenwash
It might seem inconsequential but an empty screenwash bottle could lead to MOT heartache.
  9. Horn
Toot the horn to see that it’s working. If it’s not, get in touch with us for repairs or replacement.
  10. Fuel and engine oil
Before you set off for your MOT, check that your car has sufficient fuel and engine oil. If you’re not sure of the appropriate levels, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
